Counseling Philosophy

At Romondo Porchia Christian Counseling, I believe every person possesses inherent dignity and worth because they are created in the image of God. My counseling philosophy is rooted in the conviction that genuine healing often involves the whole person—spiritually, emotionally, relationally, and psychologically. Rather than viewing these dimensions independently, I seek to understand how they interact and influence one another, recognizing that growth in one area often contributes to a path of restoration in others.

What is your understanding of the relationship between spiritual, emotional, relational, and psychological health?

I believe human well-being is holistic. Spiritual health influences how we find meaning, purpose, hope, and identity. Emotional health shapes how we process experiences and regulate our feelings. Relational health reflects the quality of our connections with God and others, while psychological health encompasses our patterns of thinking, coping, and behavior. When one area is struggling, the others are often affected. My goal is to help clients pursue balanced growth that promotes lasting wellness and resilience.

How do biblical principles inform your counseling?

Biblical truth serves as the foundation of my counseling philosophy. Scripture provides timeless principles for hope, wisdom, forgiveness, reconciliation, personal responsibility, healthy relationships, and spiritual growth. Rather than using Scripture as a simplistic solution to complex problems, I thoughtfully integrate biblical principles in ways that encourage understanding, healing, and practical life application. My aim is to help clients discover how God's truth can bring clarity and hope within the realities of everyday life.

Do you draw from evidence-based counseling methods in addition to pastoral care?

Yes. While pastoral counseling is distinctly faith-based, I also utilize evidence-based counseling practices that complement biblical care. Depending on a client's goals and presenting concerns, I may incorporate principles from cognitive behavioral approaches, solution-focused strategies, motivational interviewing, strengths-based counseling, psychoeducation, grief care, stress management, and effective communication techniques. These methods are used in a manner that is consistent with a Christian worldview and are intended to support practical, measurable progress.

What role do prayer, Scripture, and the local church play?

Prayer and Scripture are available as meaningful resources throughout the counseling process when welcomed by the client. They can provide encouragement, spiritual insight, comfort, and direction during seasons of uncertainty or personal growth. I also recognize the value of a healthy local church community as a source of discipleship, accountability, worship, fellowship, and ongoing spiritual support. While participation in these practices is never forced, they are available to clients who desire to incorporate them into their counseling experience.

How do you respect clients who differ in faith commitment?

Every client is treated with dignity, compassion, and respect regardless of their faith background, denomination, level of spiritual commitment, or uncertainty about faith. I strive to create a welcoming environment where clients feel heard without fear of judgment or pressure. Because my practice is explicitly Christian, prospective clients should expect that my counseling philosophy is grounded in biblical principles. However, I seek to honor each person's autonomy and work collaboratively in a manner that respects their beliefs, values, and personal goals.

When do you recommend referral to a licensed mental health professional or physician?

Pastoral counseling is an important form of spiritual and emotional support, but it is not a substitute for licensed mental health or medical treatment when specialized care is needed. If a client presents concerns such as severe depression, active suicidal thoughts, psychosis, substance dependence requiring clinical treatment, unmanaged psychiatric conditions, neurological concerns, or medical issues contributing to emotional symptoms, I will recommend consultation with or referral to an appropriate licensed mental health professional, physician, or other qualified healthcare provider.

When appropriate and with the client's consent, I welcome collaborative care to ensure individuals receive comprehensive support that addresses their spiritual, emotional, psychological, and physical well-being.

My Commitment to You

My commitment is to provide a safe, compassionate, confidential, and Christ-centered environment where you can explore life's challenges, strengthen your faith, develop practical coping strategies, and move toward healing and personal growth. Whether you are seeking guidance during a difficult season, support for your relationships, help processing grief, or a deeper understanding of God's purpose for your life, I consider it a privilege to walk alongside you with grace, integrity, and hope.
